Movie Scene Monday – August 24th, 2015

BatCardGif

This week’s scene is more infamous than anything else. For those that remember the movie Batman and Robin, this scene here is the high point of the movie’s silliness. It begins with a charity auction going on and many older gentlemen are bidding on the opportunity to have an evening with Poison Ivy after she had exposed everyone in the room to her love fumes. Things get odd quickly as Batman gets into a bidding war with his sidekick Robin. Robin is determined to win the auction, but he happens to be attempting that with Bruce Wayne’s (Batman’s) own money. Batman get Robin to back down after pulling out this gem of an item. Everything about it is ridiculous, although it is not without some sort of charm. Love it or hate it, this is one memorable scene.

In memory of Lenny Robinson

There are notbat_story_ne3 too many people this day in age that stand for pure good and kindness, We at Shanlian on Batman feel that Lenny Robinson was an exception to this rule. For those of you that do not know of Lenny’s work long story short Robinson had put together an amazing Batman costume, drove a blacked out Ferrari (before purchasing an actual 66 Batmobile), and used his own personal funds to drive from city to city to Children’s Hospitals around the country to give gifts and a spark of hope to sick children. Lenny fist appeared on the internet and gained popularity with the police dash-cam recording of him being pulled over by a Montgomery County police officer while in full Batman attire. Lenny was most unfortunately fatally stuck by a vehicle on I-70 near Hagerstown MD after his Batmobile had reportedly broken down on his way home from a car show in West Virginia on Sunday, August 16, 2015. The fact that this man took the time out of his busy life, funds out of his wallet, combined that with hard work and dedication, all to bring a smile to the faces of unfortunate kids tells us exactly what kind of man Lenny Robinson really was. Reading through comments and message boards full of condolences many people throw out words to describe Kenny, words like Hero, Kind, Loving, Gracious, Generous, Honorable, etc, but the only word that sticks out to me while scrolling through, the only word that makes sense and sums up the impression that Lenny made on this earth is “Batman”. We here at Shanlian on Batman would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Lenny B. Robinson in these hard times.triblive1

We Are Robin #2 Review from Kim Gaines

They started this one with a bang.

The story picks up right where we left off, smack in the middle of a fight between Duke and the Robins, against a bunch of creeper sewer warriors. And the banter between the Robin team is great. It’s so fun and witty, and has the whole teenager feel about it, without being annoying or feeling too rehearsed.

Those first six pages are an awesome ride. Tons of action and every panel delivers. The whole scene is one you won’t forget quickly, and you get lost in the chaos of it all. One of the best parts about finally seeing the Robins in action, is equally awesome in both art and writing. The unique signatures of each uniform is great, and they speak to the differences of each character. There’s an attitude about each funky belt buckle, a story behind every hood. The little quirks of each costume are so much fun, and set each character apart.

The attitude of the Robins comes in the dialogue. They feel like kids you want to know. Like you want to play video games with them on a Saturday night, but you would totally go fight bad guys with them too. They take shots at each other, laugh about funny stuff, drop pop culture references, all of that good stuff, and it makes them feel real and concrete.

In this issue we also got a glimpse of the man who might be behind this whole operation, which helped open up a lot of interesting questions about what’s really going on. Who is this guy? Why are Duke’s parents so important? Can he be trusted? I mean, we didn’t really get any answers, but it’s important that the questions were put out there. It solidified that fact that there’s something bigger going on here.

And I for one, want to find out exactly what that is.
These guys are laying groundwork, and I’m looking forward to see what comes up. 4701583-warb_2_2-3

Latest Movie Scene Monday

A day late for this one…but with busy schedules and work it was decided to do this a day late anyway. This weeks “Movie Scene Monday” is a little bit out of left field, since this particular scene and this particular movie hasn’t even been released yet.

large_e3e8296bed6f5ffcb823542c47c141f2-11748223_10155737367035034_1734335876_o

However, this scene that was shown in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Comic Con Trailer encapsulates exactly what Batman/Bruce Wayne would do. In the midst of the attack on Metropolis between General Zod and the Man of S teel, it seems as though Bruce Wayne was actually there on that day during the devastation. He sees all of the chaos and destruction of the city and instead of heading for safety, he does what a hero would do. He runs toward the danger and doesn’t hesitate, doesn’t even as much as look back. Now without the ability to see the entire scene it looks like he is able to save a few people, maybe even one small child. But that imagery of the plume of smoke, and rubble that he runs into is powerful imagery that hearkens back not only to Man of Steel but 9/11 as well.

For all the critics of Ben Affleck being cast as Batman and all the naysayers this scene really points that not only is this Bruce Wayne a bit different from previous incarnations, but this Bruce is about helping save peoples lives even when he does not have the cape and cowl on. Really looking forward to this scene and hoping it takes place during the opening of the film.
