Latest Movie Scene Monday

A day late for this one…but with busy schedules and work it was decided to do this a day late anyway. This weeks “Movie Scene Monday” is a little bit out of left field, since this particular scene and this particular movie hasn’t even been released yet.

large_e3e8296bed6f5ffcb823542c47c141f2-11748223_10155737367035034_1734335876_o

However, this scene that was shown in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Comic Con Trailer encapsulates exactly what Batman/Bruce Wayne would do. In the midst of the attack on Metropolis between General Zod and the Man of S teel, it seems as though Bruce Wayne was actually there on that day during the devastation. He sees all of the chaos and destruction of the city and instead of heading for safety, he does what a hero would do. He runs toward the danger and doesn’t hesitate, doesn’t even as much as look back. Now without the ability to see the entire scene it looks like he is able to save a few people, maybe even one small child. But that imagery of the plume of smoke, and rubble that he runs into is powerful imagery that hearkens back not only to Man of Steel but 9/11 as well.

For all the critics of Ben Affleck being cast as Batman and all the naysayers this scene really points that not only is this Bruce Wayne a bit different from previous incarnations, but this Bruce is about helping save peoples lives even when he does not have the cape and cowl on. Really looking forward to this scene and hoping it takes place during the opening of the film.

We Are Robin Issue #1 Review by Kim Gaines

Raise youtumblr_njd48wcT7q1qfy3nuo1_500r hand if you had a few doubts about We Are Robin.

Hand in the air, like I just don’t care.

I take my Batfam seriously. Casual associates included,. And I wasn’t sure I could get behind what appeared to be a bunch of street kids, running around repping the  most important ‘R’ I can imagine, after a long, honorable, and in many cases, tragic legacy that had come before them. Who are these kids? Who said they could do this? Can they fight? Do they realize how important this is? Are they ready for the weight of the this?

Aside from that, it seemed a little cliche. The adoption into this vigilante life, has been done a million times before, half of them occurring in the Bat universe alone. I felt like it might be a story we’ve seen already.

Lee Bermejo and Jorge Corona promptly shut me and my whole life up.

This story is wonderful.

For starters, Corona’s art is bomb. It’s funky and weird, and a little bit twisted. The amount of attitude and emotion he can carry through the lips of his characters alone, is unbelievable. Curvy side smirks, annoyed pouts, wicked grins, it’s all there. And it gives a life to his faces. The angles of his scenes are awesome and every new page jumps out at you.

Lee Bermejo’s throws out words like weapons. I was in love with Duke Thomas before I knew his name.

“Someone told me that the problem with youth is the inability to accept your own morality. I wouldn’t consider this one of my problems.”

Oh, come on. Don’t you want to see where this is going?

Bermejo jumps in and out of Duke’s consciousness flawlessly, and no matter how interesting it gets outside, you keep wanting back in Duke’s head. His entire narrative is snarky, funny, intelligent, and if you listen hard enough, vulnerable. The entire story is action packed from beginning to end, and it doesn’t take from the story at all. The characters are solid and engaging, and the art just takes it to another level entirely.

I will spoil nothing about this series so far, because I want you get the same rush I did. This whole issue was just fun. The characters are easy to get behind, the humor keeps it interesting, even the references to pop culture make it feel like a universe you’re a part of. The bigger mystery at play makes it all the more enticing, as you’re eager to discover what really going on in Gotham right now, and who’s really holding all the strings.

I really hope youguys give this one a shot. It’s so worth it. Some people worry about messing with the Batfam legacy and all its twisted glory. I wouldn’t consider this one of my problems.

Well. Not anymore.

We. Are. ROBIN.

Movie Scene Monday

heathThis is our first installment of what we are calling Movie Scene Monday, and today I want to bring to you a scene that is very well known from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The Scene is directly after The Joker gets his “phone call” while being held up at the MCU, ultimately setting off a series of bombs that blow up Bruce Waynes beloved Rachel Dawes. This also starts the transition from Harvey Dent to Two face due to the severe burns he sustained from the explosion. The scene here that does and says so much in just the 8 seconds it runs, is when Leadger’s Joker is hanging out of the back window of a GCPD car being chased by the police through the streets of Gotham. This is the definition of The Joker, not a serious bone in his body, not a care in the world, living free and doing what comes natuarlly to him. The way that he cracks that sideways smile and shakes his head in the breeze all without evening acknowledging that he is being chased by Gotham’s finest. The man just commited mass homicide and attempted to kill a city official and to this point of the story everything was working in Jokers favor. There is no doubt that Joker is psychotic and derranged, I mean who blows up entire police stations and then celebrates by taking a high profile suspect and a cruiser to joyride around Gotham? This scene shows The Joker in his perfect state of chaos, and Like Joker said to Dent “I’m an agent of Chaos! Oh, and you know the thing about Chaos? It’s Fair!”
